Ben Foakes predicts thrilling second Test final as England take on New Zealand

Foakes scored 56 runs as England racked up 539 in their first innings to put them 14 behind New Zealand. They then picked up seven wickets to set up a grandstand finish.

The Nottinghamshire CCC opened the doors to Trent Bridge on Tuesday, offering free entry. New Zealand lead by 238 with three wickets remaining in hand but are set to be without key fast bowler Kyle Jamieson, who is injured. He will bat, but is unlikely to bowl.

“It’s going to be a great day,” he said. “I think so much happened so quickly this afternoon that now all three results are on the line. It should be one hell of a day.

“It’s almost like the Indian version of cricket where it’s like 500 against 500 and then it all comes down to the end. So I think it’s a fantastic game and obviously it took a while to get to this, but tomorrow will be an excellent prospect.

When asked how many England would be happy to hunt, Foakes said: “[We want it to be] as small as possible. Realistically how fast it scored, less than 300 you would say would be totally doable if you bat very well. Some of the guys we have in the locker room, like Stokesy, it could really be anything. You really have no idea.

Foakes shared a great partnership with Joe Root at Lord’s to guide England to victory, and says he is desperate to be there again.

“It’s obviously fantastic to play for England and that feeling of leaving with Rooty is the best feeling I’ve had in cricket,” he said. “Reproducing that is something I want to do.”
